Taxes and Incentives

The city of Stratford is ready to assist you now. We have the capacity to bring a variety of financial tools to your assistance.

Every business is different--Stratford tailors its economic development efforts to the specific needs of each business.

Alternatives available include:

• Tax Increment Financing (TIF):
  Under the TIF program new or expanding businesses pay the appropriate tax rate. However, the city of Stratford may elect to assist in paying land acquisition, utility extensions, building costs, or other needed improvement.
• Loans
  The Stratford Community Development Corporation has access to loan funds from a multi-county loan fund (MIDAS), a Hamilton County loan fund (SEED), and most recently, a loan fund established by our local telephone company. In addition, loan funds are available from our electric supplier, Midland Power. All of these funds can provide loans at below prime rates.

Utility Rates

An expanding or new business has the opportunity to negotiate favorable electric rates.

Job Training Program

Tax credits are available for each new employee enrolled in the Iowa New Jobs Training Program.
