The Stratford Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1898. There are currently 22 firemen with eleven (11) certified as Fire Fighter I. The department has two pumper trucks--a 1996 International with a 1250 gallon-per-minute pump with a 1000 gallon tank on truck and a 1981 Ford with a 750 gallon-per-minute pump with a 1200 gallon tank on truck. The 1998 Freightliner has a 1600 gallon tank capacity. The 1996 IH pumper truck is also used for heavy rescue--with Amkus Jaws and Cutter and a set of Inflatable Airbags. The Fire Department has a four-wheel drive 1985 Chevy pickup used for grass and timber fires, holding 200 gallons of water and also a 2003 Kawasaki 650 ATV to be used in timber and wild land fires and rescues where other vehicles cannot make it. The department also has a 2008 4x4 Chevy Heavy Rescue vehicle.

In 1968 the Stratford Volunteer Fire Department started their Ambulance Service. Today the volunteers on the department do both Fire and Rescue. There are two certified ambulances--a 1999 Chevy Module III and a 2000 Chevy Module III.
