Stratford Community Development Corporation (SCDC) is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to furthering the economic development of Stratford. SCDC was established in 1976. Nine board members were assigned to the committee. Today, we hold true to the nine board member seating. Board members do not need to be located in the city limits, however they must have a Stratford, IA residence address.
SCDC firmly believes in furthering the economic development of Stratford. SCDC has funded other organizations projects, assisted business owners in developing their business needs and is a catalyst for improving Main Street in image, structure and development.
Recently, SCDC decided not to rejoin the Main Street Iowa organization. MSI wasn’t a clear fit for Stratford. All funds that went to maintaining MSI needs were put back into the community. In 2019 SCDC hosted its first Music in the Street, which was a great success and is scheduled for a second time this year. Money was invested into the 813 Shakespeare building and currently all 3 SCDC owned buildings are housed with businesses.
SCDC is a group of hardworking individuals that are constantly looking to improve Stratford. Several of our board members are business owners themselves and take great pride in giving back.
Stratford is a community working together to preserve the historical downtown, promote growth and development, and unite town and country to ensure its citizen of a Poetic Welcome Home.
Stratford Community Development Corporation aspires to lead Stratford in revitalizing its historic downtown, providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and sustaining a friendly street where people meet.
